A Proper Introduction
Hello <your name>, this is JobTitled, Jobtitled this is <your name>.
Somehow you made it here so you must be interested in your career and randomly found this, or you know me (or both!) Let me take a step back from the trenches of development and give JobTitled a proper introduction. JobTitled is a project to compile, analyze, and present all data related to careers. Up until now this informal knowledge existed in society but rarely written and never in one place.
How did I get here? Well, I was finishing up graduate school and thinking what do I want to do with my career? I had been in software development since before college and I liked the field. I had met a lot of people and saw things about what they did for a living that I both liked and disliked. I felt like my ability and my experience made me a good fit for two positions next: Software Development Manager and Product Manager. I worked closely with both so I had a good understanding of what each did, and I liked both roles. However, these roles are on two fairly distinct and different career paths one being in R&D the other in marketing. I was at a fork in the road. The problem I had is I didn’t know what came next. What came after those roles? What do people do next? Which path would I like better? Which one is for me?
Let’s ask Google. Nope. Nothing. All I get is a bunch of SPAM about job openings. I don’t want to apply for a job yet, I don’t even know what I want to do! So where do I look? Nowhere is the answer. There is no place to really get this information. If you know the internet by now, you know that any information that isn’t on it yet, will be soon. So that’s where I started. To make a place for career knowledge on the internet.
